Graduate Rosy Lata is realising a dream to help elderly people.

The 45-year-old is thriving in her caregiving role where she makes precious connections with seniors. “I enjoy talking to the old people, listening to their stories, and sharing a laugh with them. I love to have fun at work no matter how busy we are.”

She was delighted to start her new job only one week after completing the NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Advanced Care and Support) (Level 4). “I am happy and love my job. I got all the morning shifts I wanted and get paid $27.50 per hour.”

Rosy is fielding positive feedback from colleagues, residents and their families. “Even my manager is calling me brilliant.”

Born in Fiji, she studied management before supervising 23 staff at Grants Betting Ltd in Suva. In 2013, she immigrated to Aotearoa and “settled with my loving and caring husband.”

Rosy yearned to work as a health care assistant to follow a dream to work with the elderly. She chose to study at Future Skills Academy after reading flattering reviews on Facebook. A highlight of campus life has been “having the best tutor, Sadia Farzana. My teacher is amazing.” Rosy also relished celebrating birthdays and multi-cultural festivals with her classmates.
