IT team collaborates on business card project

Business Card 3

A team of Software Development micro-credential students has been busy making digital business cards for Future Skills stakeholders.

Maria Holgado, Sowmiya Purushothaman, and Hasnaa Hady have been working with Relationship Manager Kavi Sewdayal on the project which aims to give something back to those who connect with Future Skills at various events.

Kavi says Future Skills often exhibits at events aimed at employers and prospective in-employment students and collects details of potential students and industry partners at those events.

He thought it would be nice to give them something in return for sharing their details. Since fewer people carry business cards these days, digital business cards seemed ideal.

“It’s a little ‘value add’ that they can take away with them, and a little thank you for sharing their details with us,” says Kavi.

Student Maria Holgado says one of the best parts of the project has been the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in software development while being able to present a real project to a client and showcase technical skills.

“We have also benefited from working together as a team, giving us a glimpse into what industry-standard tools are needed for communication and task management of real-world projects.”

Maria says the programming language and database used in this project was new to the team. Figuring out where to start and how to meet the project requirements was also a challenge.

“Thankfully, our tutors have been instrumental in supporting and motivating us, which helped us push through and create something meaningful out of our efforts.”

She says the team gained good experience working with both the front end and back end of a web application, understanding application design, and implementing logic.

“We are currently in the testing and debugging phase, and we have received positive feedback from Kavi and our tutors, which has been incredibly rewarding.”

All three students are studying our Intermediate Software Development micro-credential. Read more about our micro-credentials here.
