Rozina Mohammed has created a new future. A practicum placement arranged by Future Skills Academy has led to a dream role in caregiving for the mother of three.

She is delighted to be launching a new career after achieving the NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Healthcare Assistance Strand) (Level 3). “Being able to study in a comfortable setting with others was a wonderful experience,” Rozina says. “I have enjoyed making new friends and learned a lot in the year spent completing my study. I especially want to thank my lovely tutor Mharvie for all her support throughout the past year while we faced different challenges in completing the course.”

Born in Fiji, Rozina studied accounting and economics after finishing high school. She moved with her family to Aotearoa in 2012. For five years, she worked in customer service before changing careers to work at an aged care facility as a housekeeper. Rozina opted to change jobs as the working hours were more fitting for family life.

She yearned to develop her career by studying but found the prospect daunting while working full-time. “But then I saw the ads for the Health and Wellbeing programme. The part-time course available at Future Skills Academy Royal Oak suited my work roster.”

A placement opportunity “set me on the new career path I was looking at.”
