Brianne Augustine is realising a dream to help others- 16 years after she first graced our campus.
At 17, she began studying our former programmes in foundation, technology, printing and business administration. But she fell pregnant at the age of 18 and was foiled from finishing her studies.
Today, the 33-year-old is set to graduate from the NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Caregiving), Level 2 after completing her practicum. “I'm extremely excited to start getting into the elderly care work.”
The solo mother of four says she decided to do something with her life when her youngest child turned five. “I've always loved helping people so I googled a few courses and came across Future Skills Academy,” she says. “They had the perfect course and I was over the moon with happiness.”
The programme has motivated the Otahuhu resident to encourage her children to study hard to get somewhere in life, she says. “As I chose to be a mother at such a young age, now is my time to shine. My kids are super proud of me and that’s the best feeling in the world.”
Brianne says she is keen to progress to our Level 3 and 4 Health and Wellbeing programmes. “I have the best tutor and amazing classmates. It’s been very easy to study with a great, helpful teacher.”
