Health and Wellbeing Tutor Sadia Farzana is making morning tea break count this September. She will be hosting Dunk it for Plunket, a nationwide fundraiser. Guests can donate to savour a cuppa and bite to eat to raise funds for Whānau Āwhina Plunket. Proceeds will back the charity’s critical services for families around the country.
Sadia is planning to host one morning tea for everyone-and another for staff- once Auckland has moved to Alert Level 2, and we can return to campus. Participants can give a small, voluntary donation. If you’re keen to come, email Sadia confirmation.
“I’m raising money for a cause close to my heart and would love your support,” she says. Sadia is an overseas doctor and an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant with a specialty in Maternal and child health. New parents, even experienced mums, may find it tough juggling the needs of a new baby, and often feel unprepared. But Sadia improves the breastfeeding journey by assessing common and serious nursing problems. “I enjoy working with women when they are expecting, and as a counsellor, I can help them to be mentally and physically prepared. No matter what the setback is, I love working directly with them to develop a personalised solution.”
Whānau Āwhina Plunket’s services include the 1000 Days to Raise a Bundle campaign. This aims to ensure all tamariki are thriving, to build the confidence and knowledge of families and whānau and make sure none of them are isolated or unable to cope. “That means working to ensure an equitable baseline of Community Services, such as lactation consultancy, parenting education, postnatal support, injury prevention activities, toy libraries, playgroups and early childhood services across the country,” Plunket says. “Our aim is to be there for all New Zealand babies and families- when and where they need us.”
