“Perfecting the art of welding has been one of my main goals.”
Graduating from Future Skills Academy is paying dividends for Binu Gopinath. The Homecare Support Worker has seen his pay rate soar to $27 an hour after completing the NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Advanced Care and Support) (Level 4). “All the eight courses were very informative,” he says. “I would like to extend my sincere thanks to my tutor Sadia Farzana. Without her, I couldn't have thought of my higher studies.”
And the academic journey does not stop there. Binu,44, has his sights set on the Master of Nursing Science, a two-year full-time programme. After completing this, he can apply for registration as a Registered Nurse.
Born in India, Binu moved to New Zealand in 2015. A science graduate, he started working for Geneva Healthcare as a Homecare Support Worker the same year. “I qualified my Level 2 (Health and Wellbeing) with Geneva in 2017 but due to a busy work schedule, I wasn’t able to complete the Level 3.”
The Manurewa resident turned to Future Skills Academy due to its proximity to home, and to upskill. “I was able to develop my leadership skills, upgrade my knowledge about different medical conditions, and most importantly the recording and reporting of changes about the client to the supervisor.” After earning his Level 4 qualification, Binu reaped the rewards of a pay rise.
