Rajika Vyas holds a National Certificate in Adult Teaching, a National Certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy, bachelor’s degrees in both education and science, a master’s equivalent degree in computers, and a horticultural qualification.
She has worked in education in New Zealand and overseas for 32 years and also has experience working in the public sector as a junior system analyst and application specialist.
Her research interests include student-centred learning and Māori student wellbeing.
Rajika believes in student wellbeing and pastoral care as the basis of teaching practices. She says learners thrive with care and nurturing.
Outside of work, she loves gardening and collecting exotic plants. She’s an avid tramper and has hiked Tongariro, Mt Taranaki, the Hillary Trail, and the Pinnacles to name a few. She also loves to travel, particularly to places that have amazing architecture and culture. She hopes to one day volunteer for the SPCA or an animal refuge. She also enjoys crochet, yoga, and walks for mental wellbeing and physical wellbeing.
